Gulftainer to play major role in Arab Freight Forwarders & Logistics Federation Policy Making

Serhan: Being on the board will allow Gulftainer to participate in formulating Arab Transportation and Logistics Strategy

The representative for the Gulftainer Group in the Arab Freight forwarders & Logistics Federation (AFFLF), Mr. Ibrahim Serhan, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Federation for a term of four years (2012 - 2016). The elections, held recently in Beirut, during the 5th General Assembly meeting, took place in the presence and under the supervision of H.E. Ambassador Maher Omran, the Director of Companies and Federations in the Arab Economic Unity Council in the Arab League.

The General Assembly was attended by the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Al-Rabih who substantiated the support of the Council to the Arab Freight Forwarders & Logistics Federation and by representatives of companies working in the field of transportation, freight forwarding and logistics from: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Algeria, Oman and Sudan.

Two days of meetings and discussions were held by the General Assembly to review the program and agenda of the Federation for 2012 and to elect the new Board of Directors, who will serve for the next four years (2012 - 2016). One of the key duties of the Board is to serve as an advisory body to the Council of the Arab Ministers of Transportation. The General Assembly was praised for the way the elections were conducted, with full transparency and with a record number of members turning out to vote.

After the results were announced, Mr. Ibrahim Serhan, the newly elected member of the Board of Directors, said; “Being on the Board of Directors will allow the Gulftainer Group to participate in the transportation and logistics policy making in the Arab World by advising on legislation related to the industry and suggesting new procedures.” He added; “A lot of work is awaiting the new Board of Directors to help in developing the transport and logistics industry and to promote the joint Arab action, especially multi-modal transportation and unification of customs documents and procedures between Arab countries.”

Gulftainer Group has been operating in the UAE and around the world for over 35 years. In the UAE it operates three main UAE ports: two on behalf of the Sharjah Port Authority - Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT) and Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT); and one in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, on behalf of the international plastics solutions company, Borouge.

Gulftainer also operates and manages a number of projects and investments in several countries, including Iraq, Pakistan, Brazil and Turkey with other ventures worldwide currently being investigated. Gulftainer’s logistics subsidiary, Momentum Logistics, was established in 2008 to take over the group’s transportation and logistics operations and has offices throughout the Middle East.
